$3,000,000 Waste Water Treatment Plant Expansion Project

Located in Tacoma, Washington, the Waste Water Treatment Plant Expansion project increased the capacity from 29 MGD to 44 MGD and nearly doubled the land size to 89 acres. The project included new anaerobic digesters, aeration basins, solids thickening, reclaimed water facility, UV treatment, odor abatement, and the latest automation and control technology. The project was highly complex and involved building a new facility while keeping the existing facility fully operational. The overall project was completed at $11 million dollars under budget.

Taurus performed detailed design of the control system. Over 15,000 instruments totaling over $1 million dollars were carefully coordinated for operation and system integration. Onsite commissioning, testing, and training. $1.3 million of new PLC Control Cabinets were engineered, fabricated, and tested by Taurus.

Taurus successfully accomplished this project utilizing the resources and flexibility from both the local office in Kent, Washington, and the Portland office. Taurus also maintained its own onsite trailer with a full time Project Manager and QA/QC Manager. Several other employee’s throughout the company also worked on the project throughout its various phases. During cut-overs and start-ups, Taurus had over 10 skilled individuals working onsite when needed. At nearly $4 million dollars for Taurus’s Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) portion, this project represents one of the largest municipal I&C jobs in the Pacific Northwest.
